Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin
Platelet Rich Fibrin (or PRF) is a type of plasma rich protein (PRP) that is created by separating a patient’s blood sample into its component parts. It is a method for your own growth or healing factors to regenerate, and it uses your own leukocytes, platelets and fibrin to encourage healing with the use of a special FDA cleared PRF Centrifuge in the office.
Used mostly with bone grafts for implants, this technique uses a small amount of the patients own blood to isolate crucial proteins that stimulate healing, encourage new bone growth, and repair soft tissue in surgical sites.
Because PRF is derived from the patient’s own blood and tissue, the process is very safe with little risk of disease transmission or rejection.
Advantages of PRF
It is safe.
Because it is gathered from the patient’s own blood, disease transmission is not a concern.
It is convenient.
It can be gathered at the doctor’s office while the patient undergoes their procedure.
It promotes faster healing.
By supersaturating the wound with PRF, tissue synthesis and regeneration increase.
It is cost-effective.
Only 55cc (about 3.4 table spoons) of blood need to be gathered, and it can be done in the doctor’s office. Therefore, the patient does not accumulate the expense of having this procedure done at the hospital or blood bank.
It is easy to use.
PRF makes bone substitute materials and bone grafting products more gel like, thus making them more easy to handle.
