Sedation Dentistry

Our patients in Upland & Fontana know Dr. Ra as a compassionate, gentle dentist. Our team is attentive during all forms of treatment, including preventative cleanings and exams, restorative care, and cosmetic improvements. Regardless of our level of care, we understand some individuals may feel anxious about undergoing any type of dental treatment.

If you suffer from dental anxiety, we want you to know you are in good hands at SmileStudio. Not all dentists offer sedation as needed for patient comfort. Dr. Ra believes that residents of Upland and surrounding areas including La Verne, Ontario, and Riverside deserve access to the dental treatment that will sustain oral health and wellbeing. To make dental care more accessible, we offer gentle, effective sedation to take the apprehension surrounding treatment out of the equation.

Nitrous Oxide

This breathable sedative has been used in medical and dental treatments for many decades. Quickly effective when breathed in through a comfortable nasal mask, nitrous oxide erases feelings of anxiety and replaces them with calm, happy feelings. Nitrous oxide is mild but very effective, allowing patients to communicate with us throughout treatment but feel no fear. One of the benefits to this form of sedation is that the effects disappear quickly. This means that patients can drive to and from appointments without having to arrange alternative transportation.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral sedatives may be prescribed for use an hour or so before a dental appointment for those with moderate dental anxiety. Like nitrous oxide, oral sedation does not put the patient into a sleep state, but does promote significant relaxation. Because oral sedatives remain in the system for several hours, it is necessary to arrange reliable transportation to and from dental appointments.

IV Sedation

In many situations, IV sedation is optimal. Safe and effective, IV sedation is administered by our staff anesthesiologist during treatments for which the patient prefers deep sedation. The effects of IV sedation are felt quickly, and do take a time to wear off. Until the patient is fully alert, he or she will rest comfortably in our office before being driven home by a friend or family member.
