Biologic Dentistry

Available in our Upland Office.

Biologic dentistry is a modern approach that addresses the effects of dental treatment & materials to the overall health of the patient.

With every treatment plan, we take into account the patient’s long term health as well as the immediate oral health needs. We are a metal-free practice which means we do not use silver or mercury amalgams in our fillings or restorations.

When we remove mercury amalgams, we use effective barrier techniques to prevent additional exposure to the toxic metals.

Biomemetic Dentistry

A Minimally Invasive Approach

With biomemetic dentistry, Dr. Ra and his team use modern technology to perform dentistry with a minimally invasive approach. This approach often prevents the need for crowns & root canals of traditional dentistry.

Safe Mercury Removal

We understand that toxic materials affect our overall wellness. An important health concern is the mercury contained in amalgam (silver) fillings.

Dr. Ra has special equipment and uses the IAOMT protocol to remove amalgam fillings in a mercury-safe way. We then use biocompatible materials to restore teeth to proper function.

Waterlase Biologic Laser Dentistry

Painless Dentistry, Less Risk of Cross Contamination

Leading-edge “water” laser technology enables us to treat you more often with NO shots and NO drilling…. No kidding! With dental laser technology Dr. Ra can perform many procedures with more comfort for patients than before. The laser can remove decay and prepare teeth for fillings many times without the need for anesthesia. And the noise of the high speed drill is a thing of the past when using the laser. Using laser dentistry, Dr. Ra can also perform some procedures that used to require a referral to a specialist. Ask us how this wonderful technology can benefit you and your smile.

Cerec Single Visit Dentistry

Mercury Free Restorations, Same Day Crowns & Veneers

A CEREC tooth restoration isn’t just fast, it is also healthy. In ages past, the only restorative material available to dentists to repair decayed or damaged teeth was metal amalgams of gold, silver or mercury. Using our CEREC on-site lab, Dr. Ra and his team have access to strong, tooth colored ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function.

These materials closely match the make up of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates. Your tooth does not crack, and you can go on enjoying your evening.

The materials also chemically bond to your tooth, so we can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.

Radiation Free Early Cavity Detection

Less X-Rays, Early Detection & Smaller Fillings

DEXIS CariVu

DEXIS CariVu is a high-tech cavity detection device that employs a patented light process. The light bathes the tooth, making enamel appear transparent. Problem areas are revealed as light is absorbed, appearing darker, much like an x-ray. The CariVu system allows our dentist in Upland to see “through” the tooth and quickly and accurately identify cavities and cracks in teeth while in the earliest stages. Smaller fillings preserve more of the tooth structure, and take less time in to treat, and less time in the dentist’s chair. CariVu is a safe, effective, radiation-free cavity detection method has proven to be effective in identifying areas of decay much earlier than the traditional, and less accurate methods of the past.

Diagnodent Laser Cavity Detection

Since identifying and filling cavities is one of the most important things we do for patients, we use Diagnodent Technology. This low intensity laser detects areas of decay more precisely and sooner than less accurate methods of the past. In addition to preventing the spread of decay, Diagnodent’s ability to catch decay earlier means that the fillings required are often simpler. This allows us to use minimally invasive filling procedures and preserve more natural tooth. Additionally, using this comfortable detection method enables Dr. Ra to monitor areas of concern without repeated x-rays.

Additional Biological Dental Techniques

One of the benefits of biological dentistry is the ability of your holistic dentist to restore small cavities through remineralization and hardening. Dr. Ra accomplishes this using various methods, such as:

  • Calcium phosphate therapy
  • Xylitol – Reduces the effect of harmful cavity causing bacteria
  • Oral Probiotics – Enhance the proper balance of bacteria in your mouth

Other tools in use at our biological dental practice include:

  • Velscope – Non-invasive early oral cancer detection
  • Diagnodent – Laser assisted early cavity detection allows us to catch cavities while they are still small allowing for smaller fillings.
  • Alkalization of the mouth – A healthy mouth is not acidic. Acidity in the mouth, which can occur for several reasons, is harmful to teeth. The severity of damage, which may be in the form of cavities, erosion, discoloration, and more, is dependent on the duration of exposure to acids. When the pH in the mouth is kept at 7.5 or higher, the remineralization of teeth becomes a real possibility.
